- USS CONSTITUTION, OLD IRONSIDES,
USS CONSTITUTION, OLD IRONSIDES, 4" PIECE OF LIVEoak from the hull of old Ironsides. It is fitted with a copper plaque from the melted copper hull sheath which reads "This material was taken from the original hull of the US Frigate Constitution Keel, laid 1794, rebuilding 1927". 3 3/4" x 2 1/2" x 1 1/2". Along with a matched pair of 24-lb deck cannons, as used aboard Old Ironsides. Made from materials salvaged from the 1927 restoration. They are 3 1/4" in length, and have working barrels which show signs of having been fired. Also included in this lot is a copper spike made by Paul Revere, marked US, and has also been found on the USS New Hampshire and on several ships under Admiral Perry's command in the Great Lakes during the War of 1812. The spike was recovered by Rodney Hilton Brown of the War Museum at Boston Navy Yard. Provenance: Rodney Hilton Brown, The War Museum. Rodney was the Commandant's Advisor to the Commanding Officer of the USS Constitution for cataloging items of historical significance onboard the Constitution.

Constitution (also known as Old Ironsides), fully fitted with three masts, lifeboats, and flags; together with a wood and glass custom showcase. Note: Leavitt was one of the foremost builders of model ships in the first half of the 20th century. His works are in numerous museums, including the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, Massachusetts. He was also featured in the November 1939 Popular Science magazine, p. 141. Ship 24"H x 32"L, case 28"H x 37"L x 14"D. Provenance: the estate of Lucille Svitzer Brady, formerly of Annapolis, Maryland, from the collection of her husband, aviation pioneer Frank B. Brady. Condition:
Overall good condition with small hairline to interior glass of case, minor wear to paint on boat, some possible losses to rigging, flag colors significantly faded.
